Sonoff Zigbee Smart Relay Switch

The SONOFF ZBMINIR2 is a compact Zigbee smart switch module designed for installers who need to add smart on/off control while keeping the customer’s existing wall switch and wall plate. It is well suited to retrofit lighting upgrades, renovation projects, apartments, new builds and light commercial automation where a discreet in-wall smart switch is required.

Unlike the ZBMINIL2 no-neutral model, the ZBMINIR2 requires a neutral wire at the installation point. Where neutral is available, it provides a strong Zigbee-based switching option with up to 10A maximum resistive load and 100–240V AC input/output. SONOFF lists the ZBMINIR2 as a Zigbee 3.0 smart switch with a 39.5 × 33 × 16.8mm body, EFR32MG21 MCU, 10A maximum resistive load and 2400W maximum load at 240V. 

For trade customers, the ZBMINIR2 is useful when upgrading existing switches to smart control without changing the customer’s preferred wall plate style. It supports common external switch types including rocker, momentary and SPDT/two-way style switches, making it flexible for different wiring layouts and customer preferences. Once installed with a compatible Zigbee gateway, customers can use app control, schedules, scenes, voice control and automation through the connected platform. 

A key advantage of the ZBMINIR2 over the no-neutral ZBMINIL2 is that it can act as a Zigbee router/repeater. This helps strengthen and extend the Zigbee mesh network, improving reliability for other Zigbee devices such as sensors, buttons and battery-powered accessories. SONOFF notes that the ZBMINIR2 can support up to 64 Zigbee end devices as part of its router function, making it a useful backbone device in larger Zigbee installations. 

The ZBMINIR2 is also suitable for installers working with open smart home platforms. It can integrate with Home Assistant through ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT when used with a compatible Zigbee coordinator, making it a good option for trade customers standardising around local, flexible Zigbee-based control rather than relying only on Wi-Fi devices or cloud-based systems. 

For installers, the SONOFF ZBMINIR2 is a strong all-round Zigbee switching module where neutral wiring is available.
